Yesterday on Sunday, the Ministry of Health headquarters in Wandegeya gutted fire under unknown circumstances.
The incident brought a lot of questions and left many people wondering why it had to be the Quality Assurance and Health promotions offices to burn.
Due to the suspicious thoughts, Police has arrested and interrogated several senior Ministry of Health officials who it suspects to be involved in the fire outbreak which destroyed unspecified property.
The fire happened less than 24 hours before the ministry’s officials had to face the Parliament Accounts Committee over embezzlement of funds.
According to Immaculate Kyatusimire, the Wandegeya division Police commander who was at the scene yesterday, said they were still carrying out investigations and could not rule out foul play by some of the MoH officials who could have wanted to destroy evidence.
It is alleged that Dr. Gerald Mutungi the Program Officer non Communicable Diseases who was in his office, choked and collapsed because of smoke which had engulfed the offices but was rescued. On regaining consciousness, Dr. Mutungi was immediately engaged by Police officers who quizzed him for close to one hour.
Does the fire outbreak at the ministry’s headquarters mean anything? Could it be that some officials are hiding something from PAC as far as embezzlement accusations are concerned?
