Gunmen have attacked one of the UPDF trucks traveling to South Sudan to evacuate Ugandans trapped in the country.

The truck carrying soldiers was attacked in Pagiri, Magwi County in Eastern Equatorial state.

We cannot independently verify whether there are other casualties but UPDF spokesperson Lt. Col. Paddy Ankunda, said on Twitter: “Attempted ambush on a UPDF evacuation convoy repulsed, three soldiers got minor injuries, convoy continued.”

On Thursday afternoon Deputy Speaker Oulanyah halted a heated debate on the statement from Minister of Foreign Affairs on the situation in South Sudan.

Minister Okello Oryem, state minister for International Cooperation told Parliament that more than 3000 Ugandans are assembled in Gumbo market in Juba awaiting evacuation back home while he advised Ugandans in other parts of South Sudan, particularly Wau and Toorit to limit movement.

Oryem also said six Ugandans were killed at Jebel Kujur when SPLA – IO tank ran over them, but their bodies haven’t been retrieved.
