Kampala. Uganda Wash Media Awards were launched at Hotel Africana in Kampala.
UWMA’s purpose is to promote coverage of Water Sanitation and Hygiene issues in the local, national and international media.
The Awards ceremony will crown the National Celebrations of the Global Hand Washing Day on 15th October.
The winner will be announced at a special awards gala.
According to Mr Robert Otim, the Hand Washing Secretariat coordinator, “The awards should inspire the media to go beyond their call of duty and produce work of highest standard and in so doing empower communities towards sustainable WASH services. The awards will become the standard that those leading this sector will measure themselves and their peers.”
The competition is open to all bone fide-practising journalists in the mainstream media in Uganda.
The WASH Media Awards will provide recognition to those journalists who deliberately and consistently make public awareness of water, sanitation and hygiene, and their related development issues a priority.
The Uganda WASH Media Awards are meant for mainstream media with specific focus on TV, Print, Online, Radio and Magazines.
A panel of distinguished professional in media and Wash sector will select the finalists on merit and strength of their entries for the Uganda WASH Media Awards.
