The Inspector General of Police, Gen Kale Kayihura warned the FDC politicians that Uganda is one state with one government.
The IGP explained that the independence Day celebrations is a national public holiday that can be only planned by the government.

Kayihura said this while at the launch of weekly fitness exercise of police officers and crime preventers at Kololo airstrip on Saturday.

This came after the FDC party members announced their plans to organise parallel celebrations early this week starting on 7 th October in Bweyogerere, a Kampala suburb.

“Having parallel celebrations is breaking the law. We have communicated to the FDC leadership that it’s the government which is authorised to organise national events. They just need to be part of celebrations organised by the government,” Gen Kayihura said.

National celebrations are on going  now in Luuka District  but opposition politicians led by Dr Kizza Besigye, the former presidential candidate still insist on marking Uganda’s 54th Independence anniversary at Katwe near Kampala.
