Uganda the centre of tourism in the world is set to build the world’s biggest hut while constructing a recreation centre in Gulu district.
A centre which is planned to be a complex which will consist of museum, a fitness centre, an auditorium with a holding capacity of 2000 people, clinic, daycare centre, basketball courts, tennis courts, a football pitch and a leisure park will be constructed by a Christian charity organization called the brain child of world embrace which is based in Gulu district, led by a Canadian national Reynold Mainse and there will be the world’s biggest hut.
Paul Flemming, a structural engineer from Arkansans in the United States of America, while revealing the plan to the officials from Uganda, Canada,USA and South Africa in Gulu of the recreation centre which will be named Gulu Community Champions Centre, said that in his 40 years of structural engineering he has never built a hut as big as the centre will have.
“In my 40 years of structural engineering, I have never built a hut of this size,” Flemming said.
The Gulu hut will be 35 metres wide with a roof of 26 metres high and “it will be as high as a six story building, “one of the engineers said, Steve Ulrich from Canada.
Ulrich added that the Gulu hut will be far bigger than the Kasubi tombs in Kampala and it will house the Acholi museum.
The centre will sit on a 15 acre piece of land wedged between Unifat primary school and Kauna grounds in Gulu town, the project is expected to kick off in 2018 and will take 5- 10 years to complete.
