The number of tourists that visited Uganda last year have declined compared to previous years.

Minister of Finance designate Matia Kasaija while reading the budget speech 2016/17 said, the number of tourists to Uganda declined in 2015/16 by 13%.

The decline in tourists comes despite more money spent on the sector, compared to previous years.

There have been complaints of tourism officers especially at the Uganda tourism board, misusing the money meant for promotion of the country.

Over Sh158 billion was allocated to the tourism sector in the past financial year.
This coming financial year, the sector has still bagged Shs198 billion with the view to do more promotion of the sector.

The minister said UTB will spend some money on developing regional tourism clusters in Buganda, Ankole, Bunyoro, Acholi, Lango, Bugisu, Busoga among others.
