Senior Presidential Advisor on Media issues Joseph Tamale Mirundi has revealed that President Yoweri Museveni cannot win the ongoing land debate.

While appearing on NBS TV’s ‘One on One with Tamale Mirundi on Tuesday morning, Tamale said the president cannot win the land debate this time round because he is fighting against four factions including religious groups, Buganda kingdom, mafias and parliamentarians of which all of them possess land and not willing to let it go just like that.

“This time round Pres. Museveni doesn’t have his own army. He’s fighting against 4 factions. He can’t win the land debate. Religious groups, the kingdom, mafias and parliamentarians all have land that they’ll fight tooth and nail to keep. Let’s lie low on this land issue. We just have to wait and see how far this goes,” said Tamale.

Tamale’s comment comes at a time when Museveni has already started a nationwide land campaign through radio stations whereby he answers queries about land related problems from all the people of Uganda.

Early this year, government tabled a constitutional land amendment bill aimed at amending Article 26 of the Constitution for compulsory acquisition of private land by the government before compensation, for government projects.
