The Uganda Peoples Defense Forces-UPDF is investigating on suspected rebel recruitment activities in greater Masaka sub region.

While speaking at UPDF’s annual end of year celebrations at the brigade barracks, Brigadier Joseph Ssemwanga, the Commandant of the Armored Brigade Barracks,Kassajjagirwa in Masaka District said they have received intelligence reports about a group of people going around the sub region, meeting and registering youths with intent of recruiting them into suspected rebel activity.

According to Ssemwanga, security intelligence organs are currently monitoring these suspicious activities and are yet to come up with a comprehensive report about them.

He revealed that some of the suspected recruits have been found in the forests of the Democratic Republic of Congo, a known hatchery of the Allied Democratic Front-ADF rebel group. He added that intelligence organs are monitoring the suspicious activities to guide their next course of action.
