The East African Community (EAC) partner states have been challenged to benchmark themselves with the world’s most advanced economy if they are to grow.
Amanya Mushega, former secretary general of EAC says the EAC needs to revisit and do away with the standards of judging it’s self by Sub saharan standards and instead aim higher.
He was giving a keynote address during the opening of a two day EAC, EU, IMF conference on regional integration in Arusha town in Tanzania.
Mushega asked for heavy investment by the partner states and human resource development and urged the community to compare the level of quality of local skills with that of countries that have prospered rather than sitting in comfort zone of sub saharan Africa.
The theme of the conference is ‘Regional Integration of the East African Community making the most of the common market road to the monetory union’.
