Two-time Uganda National Rally Champion Ponsiano Lwakataka has declared it is time that all other drivers start ‘looking over their shoulders’ as he is set to regain his top spot in Ugandan rally.
The comments followed the acquisition of a new machine – a Subaru Impreza N12B – from rival Jas Mangat.
“I want to thank fellow drivers and all my fans especially. This is something we have wanted for years, We have been labeled a lot of names recently but now it is time that we show what we are made of,” Lwakataka roared as the car was towed into his garage.
Lwakataka has always had the dream of upgrading to a more superior car than the now legendary Subaru Impreza N8 that he previously competed in. The N8 helped him secure two national rally titles with the surprise victory during last year’s Masaka rally being its final crowning moment.
The promise of a car upgrade seemed to be one that would never come to pass as he (Lwakataka) flirted with many different car brands but somehow failed to gain full ownership as he planned on a full return to competitive rallying.
But last year after a number of small fundraising campaigns, Lwakataka organized a well-attended fund raising circuit with all proceeds going towards acquisition of a new car. And Mangat’s Subaru was already in mind.
After payment and all necessary paperwork was finalized, the car was on Wednesday evening delivered to Lwakataka’s yard in Kyebando with fans and well-wishers joining in merry making as they anticipate his return.
Amid the celebrations, Lwakataka promised to compete and debut his new car during next month’s NRC second round in Mukono.
