KCCAFC are on the brink of their 13th Uganda Premier League title if they can pick a point off relegation strugglers Ndejje University. The two sides meet on Tuesday at the Arena of Visions in Bombo.
KCCA clinched a comfortable 3-1 victory over rivals Express FC on Saturday to give the league leaders the tantalizing prospect of being crowned champions with just a point in their remaining three league matches.
The Kasasiro Boys secured the points at Star Times Stadium in Lugogo courtesy of goals from Mustafa Kiiza, Muzamir Mutyaba, and Allan Kyambadde after Vipers had lost against URA in Kitende a day earlier.
“Definitely, we shall win the trophy but from now on we need to treat all our remaining games as finals but we need to seal it at the earliest of opportunities against Ndejje,” KCCA coach Mike Mutebi said after their previous win.
But they will not have it easy against Ndejje who themselves are trying to survive relegation. Ndejje is just three points off safety and any result will be welcome especially with fellow strugglers Villa and Maroons facing off.
And the Arena of Visions has become a fortress of sorts for them as they have lost just once in their last five home games a period that coincides with Asuman Lubowa coming in as technical director.
Mutebi’s team were dominant in the first leg, winning 3-1 through Muzamir Mutyaba, Muwadda Mawejje, and Stephen Sserwadda.
The latter two may not take part in this one but Mutyaba will again be of influence as Mike Mutyaba is still out with injury. Kyambadde, Patrick Kaddu, and Allan Okello will again be called upon to deliver results.
Anwar Ntege grabbed Ndejje’s consolation goal at Lugogo and together with Francis Onekalit and Robert Eseru will be crucial if KCCA’s party is to be put on hold.
Elsewhere, Maroons will be clear of relegation if they get all three points when they host fellow relegation strugglers SC Villa at the Prisons Grounds in Luzira in what is surely a relegation six-pointer.
