Makerere University and Kampala International University will have to await a final decision by the University Football League governing body to determine who will play in the group stages of the 2019 edition of the league.
Despite both teams being drawn in group C, their group stage playoff qualifier did not see an outright victor. With the encounter locked at 1-1 on aggregate, it was headed for penalty kicks but that did not happen because of fans invasion onto the field of play.
Both teams have been drawn together with defending champions Kyambogo University, Kumi University and Busitema University but a decision on who will play in the group stages will be made on Monday, February 11 after investigations into the matter have been finalised by the competitions committee.
Bugema University, Bishop Stuart and YMCA will be joined by Nkumba University in group A. Nkumba made it to this year’s group stages after eliminating Kabale University in the playoff round.
Last year’s runners up Kampala University will be seeking to win it for a record thirrd time. They have been drawn in what is the group of death with fellow two-time winners Makerere University Business School, debutants IUEA, who made it to the group stages via a bye and Mukono based Uganda Christian University in group D.
Gulu University who progressed after eliminating Muni University have been drawn in group B alongside St. Lawrence University, IUIU and former champions Uganda Martyrs University.
The eighth edition of the UFL is expected to kick off next month.
