Professional boxer Frank Kiwalabye has said that he is working around the clock to become first Ugandan to hold a World Boxing Champion ( WBC) title.
Currently, Kiwalabye is holding the Universal Boxing Organisation (UBO) Africa Bantam Weight title having knocked out Tanzania’s Fadhili Chamile in December 2019.
The 28 year old boxer is undergoing training under his career long coach Mike Kiiza in preparations for a high caliber but tune up fight against South Africa’s Joshua Studdard which shall see a winner grab a UBO inter-continental tittle on 11th April at Muganzirwazza in Kampala.
“This UBO inter-continental fight on 11th April is my tune-up fight for my next big thing towards the end of this year, l am training very hard with my coach Mike Kizza and Isaac Ssentuwa,I want to stop him in early rounds to increase my chances of bringing a WBC fight here. I promise I won’t disappoint because I want to be the first Ugandan boxer to win a WBC tittle,” Said Kiwalabye.
Kiiza (Kiwalabye’s coach since amateur) says he has a lot of confidence from this extra talented boxer and he has hopes that his player has the ability to hit world rankings.
He says that Kiwalabye’s commitment and talent shall push him to achieve his dreams although he still lacks exposure compared to his opponents at this level.
“Discipline, hard work and character has always paved way for him to put his talent to the next level,” revealed Kiiza.
He has 20 professional fights wining 18 and losing two. Of his 18 wins, 14 of them came by knockout while Joshua Studdard has won 8 of the 10 fights losing 2.
Kiwalabye who already qualified for the president salary pledge for sportsmen/women who raise Uganda’s flag both on continent and world level says he feels he has to push for the world titles in order to target a higher salary. Meanwhile is is yet to receive any penny from government for his previous achievement.
