Uganda’s representatives at this years Men’s Africa Volleyball championships currently underway in Cairo, Nemo Stars and UCU Doves maintained their perfect start to the tournament after winning their second straight games each.
Al Ahly of Egypt are record holders and reigning champions.
Tournament debutants UCU Doves were in scintillating form for the second game running, white washing GendarMarie from Madagascar in three straight sets.
The Doves were ruthless in the opening set winning 25-19 before scrapping but prevailing with a 29-27 win in the second set and wrapping up the victory with a 25-22 win in the third set.
Meanwhile, Nemo Stars had to dig deeper in their game against Kenya’s GSU as they also registered their second victory in as many games.
With both sides tournament regulars, it was one of the huge match ups in the early stages of the tournament. And it looked as though the Ugandans were in for an easy victory when they raced into a 25-20 win in the first set.
The Kenyans upped their level in the second set and were in the lead for much of the set before Nemo Stars rallied late on take the set win 25-23.
From then on, it was downwards for the Ugandans as the University side won the third set 25-18.
It looked as though Nemo stars were headed for a huge disappointment as the Kenyans forced the game into a tie break after winning the fourth set. But the Ugandans dominated the tie break to emerge 3-2.
