Police have arrested Sheikh Yahya Mwanje over the murder of Maj. Mohammad Kiggundu which occurred on Saturday.
Sheikh Kiggundu was shot dead along with his driver, Sgt. Mukasa at Masanafu by unknown assailants who were riding on boda boda.
Before his death, Kiggundu has recorded an audio pinning Mwanje as one of the masterminders of muslim sheikhs killings.
In the audio, the deceased talked about allegations by sheikh Mwanje against him (Kiggundu) and Prince Kassim Nakibinge that they wanted Sheikh Yunus Kamoga to admit that he killed the sheikhs and that Nakibinge had gone ahead to record a statement at police pinning all the 14 suspects that they had a hand in muslim clerics murders.
According to Kiggundu, the plot was primarily targeting him and a week later he met his death. Sheikh Mwanje is now the prime suspect being detained in an unknown location after being picked by the Counter Terrorism and Flying Squad officers on Sunday.
Police Spokesman Andrew Felix Kaweesi confirmed to journalists in a press brief on Sunday morning at the Force’s headquarters in Naguru that Mwanje is already in their custody.
“It is true that Sheikh Yahya Mwanje has been arrested and detained. He is with us though we can’t talk about his exact whereabouts,” Kaweesi said.
