The prime minister of Uganda,Dr.Ruhakana Rugunda has advised judicial officers to embrace revolutionary methods of addressing corruption right from it’s roots.
Speaking at the 13th East African magistrates and judges Association annual conference in Kampala yesterday, Rugunda said corruption in the judiciary must be addressed through courageous and comprehensive interventions.The premier added that possessing the best ICT system, modern buildings among other facilities without addressing laziness and corruption would undermine transformation.
He challenged the judiciary to focus on motivating judicial independence, enhancing efficiency and effectiveness in the delivery of services and also opening up courts for the poor and vulnerables who feel excluded in the judicial process.
The conference which ends on 3rd November is running under the theme ‘Transformation of judiciaries in East Africa for improved service delivery’.
