The Prime Minister of Uganda, Dr Ruhakana Rugunda last Friday delivered food relief to residents of Bukanga County in Isingiro District that are affected by hunger. He delivered 60 tonnes of posho and 30 tonnes of beans.
Early this month, the State minister for Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees, Musa Ecweru, delivered the same quantity of posho and beans.
Rugunda visited Mbaare, Endinzi and Rugaaga sub-counties and urged residents to take advantage of the present rains to plant fast-maturing vegetables and crops.
According to Rugunda , the government is going to roll out irrigation programmes so that people are able to grow enough food.
“We have brought more food. This is a short term intervention; government will roll out irrigation to enable you produce enough food,” Dr Rugunda said.
