The Uganda Police Force will start recruiting sportsmen and women as one way of grooming a healthy force in the country.
The move was revealed by AIPG Andrew Sorowen, while speaking to sports officers, political and civic leaders in the Ntungamo District. The meeting, organised by the National Council of Sports (NCS) on Wednesday was aimed at harmonising the process to revamp the collapsed district sports councils across the country.
AIPG Sorowen said the country needed to invest more in sports because it now a career which should be utilized.
He noted that in 2010, the Uganda Police Force started revamping the sports department.
“In 2014 most of athletes for Uganda at various world events, who won medals were police officers including Stephen Kiprotich,” he said, before appealing to NCS chairman Bosco Onyik to send them talented sportswomen and men during police recruitment.
The Ntungamo District boss Denis Singahache hailed NCS for considering the district in the process of revamping the district councils.
Singahache pledged to support and allocate funds for enhancing the sports in the district but asked them to let the district host the 2020 National Sports Competitions.
NCS donated 20 balls to civic and political leaders to boost sports activities in the district.
