Police has recovered an AK 47 riffle allegedly belonging to a serial robber who has been terrorizing residents in the area during a combined pursuit effort by police and residents.

Entebbe Police station DPC Godfrey Ninsiima while addressing press on Tuesday in his office stated that the gun was recovered in the wee hours of Monday morning after a tip off from a nightclub patron.

“On 14th November at 4am at Arena Sports bar found in Namulanda as people were drinking, someone strange entered the bar and wanted to rob them but the people were very cautious and called me and I called OC Kisubi to respond,” he said.

He further stated that by the time police reached, “The resident’s were pursuing the assailant and overpowered him, when he had police coming he abandoned the gun and took off to elude arrest” stating that the identity of the assailant is yet to be established.

Ninsiima stated that the robber has been on the police’s radar for the past four months and has committed more than three robberies in areas of Bwerenga, Kisubi and Namulanda.

“He targets mobile money shops, bars and hardware shops while putting people at gunpoint,” he said.

The AK47 gun recovered had two rounds of ammunition with serial number UG/PSO-3200371-04262 which according to police belongs to a private security company.

Ninsiima also called on the public to be vigilant as investigations and search for the elusive robber continued.
