Uganda loses over 80,000 babies and mothers during child birth each year.

According to the head of Makerere University centre of excellence on new born health, Prof. Peter Waiswa the new study reveals that out of those deaths, 6000 women die while giving birth,40,000 are still births and 39,000 are new borns.

“The main problem is that our health services are wanting, they don’t serve especially the women at the time of need and this is the time the woman is giving birth. A number of faculties in Uganda actually are not providing quality, the number of deaths of women or babies losing their lives during birth is something that is unacceptable.” Waiswa said.
