The Secretary General of Uganda’s ruling party, Kasule Lumumba, has harshly responded to NRM’s electoral commission chairman Tanga Odoi saying she does not need to consult him when taking some administrative decisions.
Lumumba who was addressing the media at the party headquarters on Kyadondo Road said increasing salaries of some workers was a decision reached by top management.
“We took a decision as top management. When we saw his letter on social media, we wrote to him to invite him to meet us but he wrote back vowing he can never meet us,” Lumumba said.
Watchdog website broke the story of a leaked letter that finally made rounds on social media platforms where Odoi had written to the Secretary General and copied in the President and members of CEC complaining about discrepancies in the salary increment.
“When making some administrative decisions, we do not need to consult CEC. Once we make a decision, the necessary department effects it,” Lumumba said.
She added: “I’m on the same payroll with Tanga Odoi, when he’s paid I’m also paid and when he is not paid I am also not paid.”
The SG also hinted that the party is not in a crisis since they have always paid salaries and they will continue to do so.
“We are seriously mobilizing for resources and by next year we shall have stabilized. There is no crisis as you might have thought. We have even acquired a land title for land on Nile Avenue where we shall construct our party headquarters starting next year,” Lumumba said.
Watchdog however understands that the land on Nile Avenue opposite UBC which Lumumba claims, has been a party property even before Lumumba came into office, and was actually acquired before she joined the NRM party.
