The State Minister of Finance (General Duties) Henry Musasizi has emphasized that Government is majorly focused on transformation and not only participation in the Parish DDevelopment Model program.
Musasizi who is also the Rubanda East Legislator was today addressing residents of Kyokyezo Parish in Nyamweru Subcounty, Rubanda District; where he had gone to monitor the progress on Kyokyezo – Butambi road construction works.
The 2.7 Km road linking Rubanda to Rukiga District via Mparo Town Council is part of the ongoing 12.9 Km road project worth Ug. Shs. 1.9 billion. The project also covers Habikyezi- Keitankombe- Nyakahita- Mushunga Minizi- Rwenturwe- Kagorogoro – Hakisheyi road with access routes to Keitankombe- C.O.U, Nyakahita- Catholic Church and Hakishenyi Primary School all in Nyamweru Subcounty.
According to the Rubanda District Engineer John Habimana, the construction works that began towards the end of last year were at 55% and the contractor was expected to finish before the end of September this year.
However, while addressing locals at Kyocezo Trading Centre, Minister Musasizi road infrastructural development is not enough if people are not using the roads to transport income generating goods to the markets. On that note, he announced that soon he would personally make visits to Households that benefited from the PDM funds.
“We want to know how you have used the money received to transform your household economically” Musasizi said, emphasizing that the PDM Program was majorly aimed at transforming a section of Ugandans from subsistence to the money economy.
“If you used the money to buy pigs, we want to know how the pig project has transformed your household. If it is a chicken project, we want to know how the project is performing” he said.
Meanwhile, the Nyamweru Subcounty LC.3 Chairperson, Alex Nkwasiibwe thanked Minister Musasizi for the courtesy visit to the Subcounty, explaining that it was an encouragement to regular monitors of the road projects going on in the area.
Mr. Nkwasiibwe also recognized Musasizi’s personal input in securing the Shs.1.9 billion funding that was released through the Ministry of works and Transport for road works in Nyamweru Subcounty.
Other Officials, who accompanied Minister Musasizi during the road monitoring activities, included Members of the Rubanda District Executive Committee, Rubanda District Speaker of Council, and the District Engineer.
