Basoga from all walks of life braved a chilly weather to make it to Budondo in Jinja to send off politician and educationist, Dr Frank Bulima Nabwiiso on Saturday, 21, 12, 2024.
Dr Nabwiiso passed on on December 14, 2024 from Mukono where he had been admitted briefly.
He was aged 84 years.
People from Busoga and outside pulled political differences aside to accord one of the most respected icons of the land a befitting send off, bringing together warring political sides in a harmony rarely witnessed in this country.
Besides key members of both the Najjanankumbi faction of the Forum for Democratic Change( FDC), members of the ruling National Resistance Movement ( NRM) also graced the occasion in their numbers.
One speaker after another waxed relical of the fallen politician who was variously hailed as a true patriot who will be hard to replace.
Prince Juma Akiiki Mpendo, a top mobliser of the Patriotic League of Uganda( PLU) described the late as a true encyclopedia of knowledge whose rare attributes he never hid away from people who went to him. He appealed to the current crop of politicians to emulate the deceased’s selflessness and honesty if at all the country is to move forward.
Dr. Nabwiiso was a man of remarkable intellectual and personal depth. From the Baise Muwaya Clan, his father, Bulima, hailed from Kakutu, Saaka, in Namwiwa Sub-county, Kaliro District.
He was well-connected within the community. His cultural roots ran deep, and he was a talented musician with the rare ability to read both staff and sol-fa notation. Whether bass or tenor, his voice resonated with natural power, and he always knew the right key to begin a song.
Dr. Nabwiiso’s contribution to the fight to save Busoga University, where he served as Vice Chancellor, was invaluable.
