Vivo Energy Uganda, the leading distributor and marketer of Shell-branded fuels and lubricants in the country, is joining the global community in celebrating World Quality Week from November 11th to 15th, 2024.
This year’s theme, ‘Compliance to Performance,’ underscores the company’s commitment to adhering to rigorous quality standards to achieve consistent high-performance outcomes in its operations.
World Quality Week is an annual event that highlights the importance of quality in business practices, offering organizations an opportunity to reaffirm their dedication to delivering excellence across all aspects of their operations. For Vivo Energy Uganda, this week serves as a platform to showcase the company’s unwavering focus on maintaining the highest fuel and safety standards, further enhancing customer satisfaction and trust.
“At Vivo Energy Uganda, we understand that quality is not just a standard, but the cornerstone of our operations,” said Alinafe Mkavea, the company’s Chief Commercial Officer, who spoke on behalf of Managing Director, Derek Geer. “World Quality Week gives us the opportunity to both celebrate and strengthen our commitment to ensuring that every product and service we provide meets the highest possible standards. It’s about compliance to these standards at every stage, which leads to exceptional and reliable performance.”
The company’s dedication to quality assurance has been a key driver behind its market leadership. To further highlight the significance of quality in its operations, Vivo Energy Uganda recently hosted a special media tour earlier this year, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the company’s fuel quality control processes. Journalists and stakeholders were taken on a detailed journey through the rigorous steps that the company follows to ensure its fuels meet Shell’s world-class standards of performance and safety.
During the tour, Vivo Energy Uganda emphasized that despite a recent change in fuel supply arrangements — with the Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC) taking over the supply role from the Government of Kenya — the company’s quality control and supply chain processes have remained unaffected. Stakeholders were able to witness firsthand the careful monitoring of fuel quality through a series of practical demonstrations, from the initial testing of fuel to its offloading procedures and final verification at fuel stations.
To mark World Quality Week, Vivo Energy Uganda has organized a live demonstration of its fuel offloading operations, designed to educate both the public and industry professionals about the meticulous steps taken to ensure that the fuel is of the highest quality when it reaches consumers. The demonstration will include a detailed overview of the testing and verification procedures that take place at every stage of fuel delivery, from the point of offloading to the final check at the pump.
“Our commitment to quality starts long before the fuel reaches our customers,” said Mkavea. “It’s a continuous process that spans from sourcing, testing, and transportation, all the way to the final delivery. World Quality Week gives us an opportunity to showcase this process and reaffirm our promise of safety, quality, and reliability.”
In addition to the public demonstrations, Vivo Energy Uganda is also focusing on internal initiatives to foster a culture of quality among its staff and partners. The company is conducting a series of educational sessions aimed at reinforcing the importance of quality-conscious behaviors and continuous improvement. These sessions will provide employees with a deeper understanding of the company’s quality standards and empower them to communicate this commitment to customers effectively.
Valery Okecho, the company’s Corporate Communications Manager, emphasized the critical role of staff engagement in driving quality initiatives.
“Training our employees to understand the importance of quality, and empowering them to be ambassadors for these standards, is key to ensuring that quality isn’t just a top-down message — it becomes part of the fabric of our culture,” Okecho explained. “Our employees are the frontline in ensuring that we meet customer expectations, and this focus on quality helps strengthen both our service delivery and the reputation of the Vivo Energy brand.”
As part of its broader strategy, Vivo Energy Uganda continues to set the benchmark in the energy sector, consistently pushing the envelope in fuel quality and safety standards.
With a strong focus on compliance, the company aims to remain a trusted and reliable partner for both individual consumers and businesses across Uganda.
Its ongoing investments in quality assurance processes help ensure that the energy solutions it provides contribute to the safety, efficiency, and development of Uganda’s growing economy.
Vivo Energy Uganda’s dedication to excellence not only supports the company’s business goals but also plays a crucial role in upholding public safety and contributing to the long-term sustainability of the country’s energy sector.
As World Quality Week comes to a close, the company remains steadfast in its mission to deliver the highest quality products and services, with a deep commitment to the communities and industries it serves.
