A significant shift in Uganda’s political landscape is underway with the emergence of the People Power Front (PPF), a newly registered political entity. Officially formed on December 20, 2023, by Spartan Mukagyi, the PPF has quickly gained attention as a faction of the National Unity Platform (NUP) and People Power Movement reorganizes to restore its initial momentum.
Under the initiative dubbed the “People Power Reunion,” PPF is set to bring together former and current coordinators of the movement alongside individuals passionate about change. The goal of this reunion is to reignite the spirit of resistance and unity among the People Power allies, who have become disillusioned by the continued exploitation of their efforts for personal and financial gain.
The event is planned for November 2024 at the iconic Kololo ceremonial grounds, a venue chosen for its capacity to host a large gathering, dubbed the “One Million People Assembly.” The People Power Reunion aims to offer a platform to rekindle hope, advance a rational, liberation-focused agenda, and promote transformative politics geared towards nation-building.
In a broader political context, the founders of PPF are driven by the need for a shift from aggressive opposition to one that focuses on sustainable change, hoping to foster unity and development for the benefit of the average Ugandan. With general elections in 2026 on the horizon, many are looking to PPF as a significant player in the evolving political scene.
The rise of PPF has sparked rumors that it may destabilize the NUP, as several political coordinators, including those in the diaspora, are reportedly considering realignment with this new political movement. Furthermore, the People Power Reunion is anticipated to unveil key PPF figures, including Party Chairperson Hajji Musa Misango and Secretary General Spartan Mukagyi.
As Uganda inches closer to the 2026 elections, the eyes of political analysts and the public alike will be on PPF and its role in reshaping the country’s political discourse.
