It has now emerged that Mr. David Lewis Rubongoya, the Secretary General of the National Unity Platform (NUP), might be the real puppet master behind the recently formed People Power Front (PPF). According to sources, Rubongoya and his trusted ally, Spartan Mukagyi, held a secret meeting recently, evidenced by licked photos of both, Rubongoya and Spartan, to iron out the final details and streamline PPF’s political strategy.
This new political party, founded as a potential fallback plan for NUP, was initially thought to be Spartan Mukagyi’s brainchild. However, insiders now suggest that Rubongoya has been quietly pulling the strings behind the scenes. The formation of PPF came in response to growing legal troubles that NUP was facing, especially from the Kibalama faction that has been challenging the party’s leadership.
Earlier this year, the Kibalama faction took legal steps to block the gazetting of NUP’s constitution, pointing out irregularities in the election of the current leadership. With these ongoing threats, it seems the creation of PPF was a calculated move to safeguard the ideals of the People Power movement, originally the backbone of NUP, but now a defunct entity since NUP’s establishment in 2021.
As the proverb goes, “still waters run deep,” and Rubongoya has been quietly working behind closed doors. A recent interview with the party’s chairman, Hajji Musa Misango, hinted that there are several anonymous members behind PPF, with Rubongoya rumored to be one of them. Misango promised that these members would be unmasked during the official launch of the party, expected to happen in the near future.
Many had initially suspected that Hon. Mathias Mpuuga was the main force behind PPF, but he has since denied those claims. With Rubongoya’s name now in the mix, political analysts are wondering whether NUP’s leadership, particularly Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi, is aware of these developments or whether he might be sidelined in this new political maneuver.
It is said that “when two elephants fight, it’s the grass that suffers.” As the PPF takes shape and Rubongoya’s role becomes clearer, Uganda’s political arena is once again heating up. The PPF, officially registered by Spartan Mukagyi on December 20, 2023, could be a powerful player in the 2026 general elections, and its potential to stir up the political landscape has become the talk of the town.
As the curtains begin to lift, all eyes are now on Rubongoya and Mukagyi as the PPF gears up for its launch. One thing is clear: there’s a storm brewing in Uganda’s political world, and the truth about who holds the real power behind PPF will soon come to light.
