In Kamuli District, the police have busted a gang dealing in counterfeit US dollars, putting a stop to their con game that stretched across Busoga and beyond. You know what they say, a rat can pretend to be a rabbit, but it will still get caught in the trap!
The raid, led by SP Madiri Ahmed, Kamuli’s District Police Commander (DPC), nabbed 22 suspects, including the village chairperson of Buwasa, Buwagi in Nawanyago Sub-county. These slippery characters have been causing a ruckus in the area, scamming people, stealing, and even getting rough with a few unlucky souls.
“We’ve had enough complaints to fill a basket,” said Madiri. “People have been tricked, robbed, and beaten up by this gang. Their crimes range from petty theft to aggravated robbery.” One incident even involved a stolen gun from an officer in the Special Forces Command (SFC), after the officer was attacked in the area. The vehicle was recovered, but the ringleaders are still at large, like termites hiding in the woodwork.
The suspects, including big names like Mugabo Shafik and Kirunda Sadam, weren’t exactly planning a vacation. They’ve been accused of swindling sugarcane traders and land buyers, promising to “multiply” their money in what was a clear case of trying to milk a cow with no udder.
Kamuli Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Robert Mutemo, didn’t mince words. “This operation should serve as a loud warning to every crook out there. We’ll turn over every rock until we catch them all,” he said. Mutemo added that the gang had been wreaking havoc in places like Mbale, Iganga, and even as far as Kampala, but now they’ll have to face the music.
It’s a classic tale of greedy hyenas thinking they can feast forever, but this time, the hunters have caught up with them!
