Jinja Regional Referral Hospital (JRRH) is set to revolutionize healthcare in the region, thanks to its visionary director, Dr. Alfred Yayi, and partnerships with non-profit organizations like Impact Africa Services International (IASI) and Pathways to Hope Africa.
The Director Jinja Regional Referral Hospital (JRRH) Dr Alfred Yayi says patients suffering from lung complicated diseases in the region will soon be saved from the burden of travelling long distance to Kampala.
Dr Yayi says one of the partners called Impact Africa Services International (IASI), a non-profit organization has agreed to procure and place dialysis equipment to start dialysis services at the Jinja Regional Referral Hospital.
Dialysis is a medical treatment that filters waste products and excess fluids from the blood when the kidneys are no longer able to perform this function.
According to experts, dialysis is a lifesaving treatment for patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD), acute kidney injury, or chronic kidney disease.
Jinja Regional Referral Hospital has a catchment area of more than 11 districts and one city with a population of 4.3million, as per the 2024 National Population census, but also caters for patients from Buikwe and Kayunga.
Speaking during the official commissioning ceremony of the Samuel Leeds-built Orthopedics Ward and Modern Oxygen Plant, Dr Alfred Yayi also disclosed that another partner called Pathways to Hope Africa has already procured 60 orthopedic beds that will be delivered by the end of this October.
He listed dozens of success stories registered in recent years in terms of infrastructure improvements, thanks to the good collaboration and support from the ministry of health.
“…the vision of the hospital is to be a centre of excellence in providing specialized and general healthcare services in Busoga region and beyond…”, the director told his audience who included foreign guests, local leaders and officials from the line ministry.
Dr Alfred Yayi said the hospital built in the 1930s as a health facility to treat World War victims with a capacity of 500 beds has now attracted specialist doctors in all specialized service delivery areas like Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) medical specialty dealing with the diagnosis, treatment, and surgery of disorders related to the ears, nose, throat, and head and neck.
Other areas of specialty now in place at JRRH include Dental Surgery and pathology.
Dr Yayi said the area of Anesthesiology is facing challenges because of poor attraction and retention of personnel who are easily lured into greener pastures outside public health facilities.
Anesthesiology is the medical specialty concerned with the administration of anesthetics and pain management for patients undergoing surgical, medical, or other procedures.
Dr Charles David Mukisa the chairperson Hospital Management Board lauded the First Deputy Prime Minister/Minister in charge of East African Community Affairs Rt Hon Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga for being a patriotic leader who always stands firm on public interest issues.
Dr Mukisa welcomed the developments and innovations taking place at the JRRH saying the various specialized services now means individuals from the region do not have to travel long distances.
“..i would like to express my deepest gratitude to all those who have contributed to these projects and innovations, your unwavering support and commitment have made the day possible…”,Dr Charles David Mukisa appreciated.
