Mukono district especially the more urban parts face challenges that can be handled as the Mukono community working together.
In every corner of the district you find issues which would be solved by the local community but unfortunately everyone is waiting for someone else to address the matter.
Allow me provide a few tips to some of the challenges facing Mukono and beyond,and what we can do about it.
1. Land Conflicts and Property Disputes
Problem: Residents face frequent land conflicts, often involving land dealers, family disputes over property rights, and lack of legal documentation. This situation has led to divisions within families and unfair loss of land.
Solution:
Advocacy for Legal Awareness: Educate residents on the Land Act, Succession Act, and Marriage Act through community sensitization forums and workshops.
Support Legal Administration: Partner with legal aid organizations to assist families in obtaining land titles and legal documentation.
Strengthen Local Council Courts: Advocate for improved capacity and efficiency of local council courts (LC1, LC2) to handle disputes more swiftly and justly.
2. Youth Unemployment
Problem: High levels of unemployment, especially among the youth, contribute to poverty and social unrest. The municipality lacks enough opportunities for skills development and employment.
Solution:
Skills Development Programs: Implement vocational training programs focusing on marketable skills such as ICT, carpentry, tailoring, and agro-business.
