The Uganda Police Force has issued a stern warning to popular TikToker Lucky Choice following reports of abusive content directed at President Yoweri Museveni. The warning was delivered by Police spokesperson ACP Rusoke Kituma during a weekly state of security update at the Naguru police headquarters.
“Abusing the president, who is the fountain of honor, is a crime and can lead to prosecution,” Kituma stated, emphasizing the seriousness of the offense. He promised that the police would thoroughly investigate Lucky Choice’s content and take appropriate action if necessary.
This acknowledges the growing trend among some Ugandans to insult public figures on social media platforms, particularly TikTok. “I’m a great fan of TikTok, but I wonder how I miss some of these things. However, I will look for his content and see what next,” he added, expressing his commitment to addressing the issue.
This warning comes amidst a broader crackdown on social media abuse in Uganda, where several TikTokers have recently been apprehended for engaging in obscene and abusive behavior towards government officials and other individuals. The police have reiterated their stance against such actions, urging the public to exercise caution and respect for public figures.
As the investigation unfolds, the police are calling for a more responsible use of social media platforms to foster constructive dialogue rather than hostility.
