The Minister for Youths and Children Affairs, a key member of Muhoozi’sPatriotic League of Uganda (PLU), has clarified that members of the PLU are free to return to their original political parties, explaining that the PLU is not a political party but a civic organization.
He praised General Muhoozi’s recent decision to withdraw from the 2026 presidential race, saying it has shown the General’s vision for Uganda. According to the minister, he has received over 1,000 calls from Ugandans who expressed their support for Muhoozi’s choice.
“For us, the people who believe in Muhoozi, we think his decision is good for Uganda. Ever since he made the announcement, I’ve received more than 1,000 calls, with people telling me he has a vision,” the minister said.
Nicknamed the “standby generator” by his supporters, the minister compared the situation to President Museveni, who recently celebrated his 80th birthday. He explained that although Muhoozi’s supporters are ready, like a generator, they can wait patiently, as Museveni is still strong and active.
This comes after General Muhoozi announced he would not run for president in 2026, leaving many of his supporters disappointed and uncertain about their political future. Several politicians who left their parties to join the PLU are now unsure of their next steps.
