In a surprising yet heartwarming twist during the Bunyoro Sub-region Youth Empowerment rally held in Masindi district on Friday, September 20th, the Youth and Children Affairs Minister Balaam Ateenyi left everyone surprised by donating his ministerial suit to a Bunyoro local comedian. This gesture came just weeks after the minister publicly expressed his discomfort with wearing suits, a wardrobe change that came with his new role.
Known for his orange low-budget orange shirts that once dominated his wardrobe, Balaam openly admitted that transitioning to the formal attire expected of a minister has been no easy feat. “I miss my old shirts,” he lamented in a previous interview, hinting that his suit-wearing days were more of a ministerial obligation than personal choice.
Fast forward to the rally in Masindi, where Balaam, true to his light-hearted nature, seized the moment. In front of a crowd of enthusiastic Bunyoronians, he not only shared messages of empowerment but also decided to rid himself of his expensive suit. The lucky recipient? A Bunyoro comedian, whose on-stage antics had the audience in stitches. In a video that has since gone viral, Balaam is seen handing over the ministerial outfit with a grin, much to the comedian’s delight and the audience’s amusement.
The comedian, caught off guard by the abrupt gift, immediately tried on the suit, causing even more laughter as the oversized attire hung loosely on him. “This is how you know you’ve made it!” he joked, strutting around the stage as if he were a high ranking official.
The internet has since been buzzing with praise for Balaam’s down-to-earth generosity, with many commending him for connecting with the local community in such an unexpected and humorous way. Whether or not this marks the end of his suit-wearing days, one thing is certain, Balaam’s orange shirts might just be making a comeback!
As for the comedian, he now has a one-of-a-kind ministerial souvenir, along with a great story to tell.
