President Yoweri Museveni has through his socials, expressed gratitude to Ugandans for the overwhelming birthday wishes he received as he celebrated his 80th birthday yesterday. The President, who marked the occasion in Luweero, the historical site of the Bush War that brought him to power, took a moment to reflect on his life and the journey that has defined his leadership.
“I thank everyone for showering me with birthday wishes,” Museveni said, speaking to supporters and well-wishers. “I am grateful for the gift of life and the past 80 years I have lived.”
The President also took time to acknowledge the impact of his family, paying tribute to his parents for raising him and to First Lady Janet Museveni, whom he credited for building a loving family alongside him. “I thank my parents for raising me and Maama Janet for blessing me with a large and loving family,” Museveni said.
The President’s birthday celebration in Luweero was symbolic, as it was here that the National Resistance Army waged the five-year guerrilla war that led to Museveni’s ascension to power in 1986. The event was marked with reflections on the country’s history, as Museveni reminded the gathering of the sacrifices made during the Bush War to secure peace and stability for Uganda.
As the leader of Uganda for nearly four decades, Museveni’s milestone birthday has sparked widespread discussions on his legacy and the future of the country under his leadership. However, on this day of celebration, his message was one of gratitude and reflection on a life of service to the nation.
The celebration saw many high profile guests, including government officials, NRM party members, and local residents, all coming together to honor Museveni’s 80 years of life.
