Today, the Ministry of Finance launched a series of Budget Consultative Sessions in the Bunyoro and Arua regions, marking the beginning of a nationwide effort to shape the financial strategy for the Fiscal Year 2025/26. The consultations are a critical part of the government’s commitment to inclusive budget planning, with the aim of ensuring that local economic needs are prioritized in the national development agenda.

The sessions, which will run from 16th September to 4th October 2024 in 24 differebt regional centres, are being conducted in collaboration with officers from local governments, political leaders, and representatives from various government ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs). Over the course of the consultations, a total of 24 regional centres will host these workshops, ensuring that the voices of communities across the country are heard and considered in the final budget.

These consultative meetings provide a platform for stakeholders to discuss key priorities, with a focus on local economic growth. The Ministry of Finance aims to use this opportunity to collect insights and proposals from regional authorities, allowing for a budget that reflects the unique challenges and opportunities within each region.

These sessions are critical in aligning the budgetary plans with the specific economic needs of every region. By involving local leadership and other stakeholders, the FY 2025/26 budget will not only be growth-oriented but also inclusive and responsive to the aspirations of all Ugandans.

As the consultations continue, attention will be given to sectors such as infrastructure, health, education, and agriculture, which are seen as key drivers of regional development. The Ministry is keen on leveraging these sessions to enhance service delivery and promote sustainable economic growth across Uganda.

The process will culminate with a comprehensive report detailing the needs and priorities of each of the regions, which will then guide the formulation of the national budget.
