In a fiery exchange that has shaken Uganda’s political arena, the Member of Parliament for Soroti West, Jonathan Ebwalu, has launched a scathing verbal assault on President Yoweri Museveni, calling him an “old man who easily forgets what he says.” The remarks come in response to Museveni’s controversial claims that his one million votes were rigged by NUP in the last general elections.
“Museveni is a big joker,” the MP said during an interview. “Maybe he was just kidding when he made those accusations, but if he was serious, then I blame it on his advisers. He’s not in charge of this country anymore. At his age, he’s constantly being briefed, and it’s no surprise he forgets soon after.”
The MP’s fiery remarks come as a blow to Museveni’s continued insistence that the 2021 election was tainted by NUP interference, a claim that has drawn widespread criticism. Uganda’s political landscape has been riddled with claims of electoral malpractice, but the MP from Soroti West went further to hint that Museveni might be setting the stage for even more dubious electoral tactics in the upcoming election.
“Everyone knows the last election wasn’t free or fair, and we all know in whose favor it was,” the MP said bluntly, alluding to Museveni’ long standing grip on power. He then issued a warning: “Uganda should brace itself for what’s to come. By making these statements, Museveni could be preparing for the worst kind of vote rigging we’ve ever seen. He’s done it before, this time it might be even worse.” Ebwalu remarked!
