The 33year old athlete was the victim of a heinous attack perpetrated by her Kenyan ex-boyfriend. The assailant, who set Cheptegei ablaze, was earlier reported to have succumbed to burns he sustained during the same violent episode.
Cheptegei, renowned for her remarkable achievements in athletics, was deeply mourned by fans and the world alike. Her tragic death has cast a shadow over her legacy. The Olympian’s remains were transported to her hometown of Kapsiywo village, Muimet Parish, Bukwo Sub-county, Kongasis County, where she will be laid to rest.
