Bulaga, Wakiso District – The usually bustling Bulaga market was thrown into turmoil yesterday when three young men, Makumbi Gerald (19), Ssenyonjo Yahaya (20), and Ssengozi (21, full name unknown), were arrested by police on charges related to homosexuality. The boys, all residents of Bulaga and loaders at the local daily market, are currently being held at Bulaga Police Post as investigations continue.
The arrests followed a wave of rumors circulating in the community about the boys’ alleged involvement in homosexual activities. When confronted, the boys dismissed these accusations as “emboozi z’amalwa,” a Luganda phrase translating to “drunken gossip.” However, suspicions were heightened after a fellow market loader, whose identity has been withheld, accused Ssenyonjo of sodomizing him. This accusation was initially ignored due to the complainant’s known mental health issues, but it has since resurfaced amid the ongoing investigation.
According to local sources, Makumbi, one of the suspects, had been remanded to Kitalya prison during the COVID period for unrelated charges. Upon his release, he reportedly shared stories with his friends about widespread homosexuality in the prison, leading some to speculate that he may have been influenced by what he experienced there.
It is alleged that the boys have already confessed to the charges and that videos purportedly showing them engaging in homosexual acts were found on their phones. However, attempts to obtain an official statement from ASP Kajera Zadoki, the officer in charge of Bulaga Police Post, have so far been unsuccessful. He is reportedly on special duties in Kiteezi, but our team remains committed to obtaining his comment on this unfolding story.
The arrests have sparked outrage and concern among the local community. Many traders at the market, where the boys work, expressed their dismay over the situation. “We need to pray for our children for God to save them from these evil vices,” lamented one trader, who is also a parent. “Those boys don’t even need to come back and mix with others because they will have everyone spoiled.”
As the investigation continues, the community remains on edge, waiting to see how this controversial case will unfold.
Stay tuned for further updates.
