Authorities in Kabale District have hailed the outgoing Deputy RDC Andrew Ronald Bakak for spearheading the fight against corruption during his time in office.
Mr. Bakak who was appointed as Deputy RDC Kabale in August 2022, handed over office today following his transfer to Soroti District in the same position. He has been replaced by Former Mbarara City Deputy RCC Christopher Aine.
During the handover Ceremony held the Kabale District Headquarters, the Executive Secretary for Marketing and Production Ronald Bagamuhunda said that Bakak had fearlessly commanded the fight against corruption in the District, arresting a number of corrupt officials and recovering hundreds of million shillings, especially in the Parish Development Model –PDM Program.
Records indicate that during Bakak’s two year term as DRDC in Kabale, up to 301 million was recovered from corrupt officials, in the Parish Development Model alone.
Mr. Bagamuhunda who doubles as the Kabale District LC.5 Youth Councilor also thanked Bakak for successfully coordinating operations against shoddy works by contractors handling Government projects such as roads, hospitals, school buildings, and water projects, among others.
“He has been popular amongst us for his relentless fight against corruption and shoddy works, and we thank him as the Political leadership of Kabale, because in doing that, he helped to ensure that our people got the services they deserved,” said Bagamuhunda.
The Kabale District LC.5 Chairman Nelson Nshangabasheija described Bakak as a hardworking Presidential representative who refused to sit in office, but spent his time travelling around the District, and listening to concerns of the people, as well as monitoring implementation of Government projects.
“I tried all my best to ask if the appointing authority could cancel his transfer because we still needed him, but I later found out that he had actually requested for his own transfer because he wished to be nearer to his home (In Iganga)” Nshangabasheija said.
In his remarks, The Kabale RDC Godfrey Nyakahuma said his outgoing Deputy had contributed a lot in stabilizing the District which was still recovering from intense Political brawls of the 2021 general elections.
“When we came here, there were a lot of Political fires, and together with my brother Bakak, we cooperated with other stakeholders especially the Security and Political leadership to calm down the tempers,” Nyakahuma said.
In his farewell speech, Mr. Ronald Bakak thanked President Yoweri Museveni for appointing him as DRDC in Kabale for two years, and pledged to maintain his work rate at his new workstation in Soroti District. Bakak handed over the office Key, Office Stamp, Case Files, and a document with a list of all items in the office.
The incoming DRDC Christopher Aine said he had already acquainted himself with Bakak’s legacy and he planned starting from where his predecessor stopped.
“I won’t promise a lot to the people of Kabale, but I pledge to follow his footsteps and execute all my duties as mandated by the law, as well as following guidance from my superiors and the appointing authority,” Aine said.
