The eighth Uganda Evaluation Conference is set to take place from August 19th to 23rd, 2024, at the Uganda Management Institute. The Uganda Evaluation Association (UEA) and the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), Government of Uganda are organizers of the event.
Mr. Mathew Lubuulwa, the President Uganda Evaluation Association, while addressing Journalists at the Uganda Media Centre on Monday, said Climate Change Challenges would be among key topics to be discussed.
“We at UEA are very concerned with challenges posed by climate change, which is why tree planting is on our top agenda during the Conference which kick started today (Monday) at the Uganda Management Institute”, he said.
According to Mr. Lubuulwa, the Conference’s major objectives will include; experience sharing, to create a platform where stakeholders can share experiences and insights from evaluations that contribute to reaching national targets under the National Development Program III (NDP III) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“Special focus will be given to building resilience against climate change”, he added.
He also said the conference would address Innovative Practices, to explore and promote innovative evaluation practices that enhance learning and foster stronger synergies between local practitioners and international evaluation actors.
Mr. Mathias Mulumba Mayombwe, the Civil Society representative at the media briefing, said the conference would emphasize the transition from traditional accountability-centric evaluations to practices that prioritize learning and impact.
“This shift is critical for facilitating informed decision-making and improving project and program service delivery. It provides a critical opportunity for stakeholders to reflect on current practices, share knowledge, and develop strategies to enhance the effectiveness of evaluation in achieving development goals. ”, he said.
Mr. Mulumba cited the examples of recent Kitezi landfill, Bududa and Kaseses frequent landslides as among priority areas that would be addressed and a remedy sought at the conference.
The conference will kick-off with two-day pre-conference workshops, followed by three days of the main event, according to organizers.
The theme of the conference is; “Development with Purpose: Empowering Accountable learning for achieving Development Goals and Enhancing Climate Resilience”.
