A 20-year-old boda boda rider, Twebaze Martin alias Kagame, who was missing, has been found murdered in Echuya forest reserve, Rubanda district, after he was hired by a suspect to transport him to Rubanda.
According to police, Byomugabe Chrisostom hired Twebaze on July 30, 2024, at around 6:30 pm, at Kampala Omukiragiro stage for bodaboda, Kacence parish Nyakishenyi sub-county, Rukungiri district, to transport him to Rubanda district at a fare of UGX 60,000. Twebaze informed a fellow boda boda rider, Kato Benson, that he would return the next day.
However, when Twebaze failed to report back to Nyakishenyi on July 31, 2024, fellow boda boda riders raised suspicion. They rang his phone number, 0783194569, but it was unavailable on the network. The riders then informed their chairman, Nuwahereza Martin, who reported Twebaze’s disappearance to police on August 2, 2024, at 3:30 pm.
A case of disappearance was registered, but later investigated as murder and aggravated robbery vide CRB 923/2024. Police tracked Twebaze’s sim card, 0783194569, which showed a common caller, 0785342485, registered in the names of Tuyisenge Isaac. Tuyisenge was arrested from Kisoro town in Kisoro district and found in possession of the deceased’s motorcycle.
Tuyisenge’s arrest led to the arrest of Byomugabe Chrisostom, who revealed that Twebaze was murdered at Echuya forest reserve and his body dumped in the same forest. Police visited and examined the crime scene, recovering an axe and recording statements from witnesses. A postmortem examination was also conducted.
“We have two suspects in custody, Byomugabe Chrisostom and Asimwe Amon, and others are still at large,” said ASP Elly Maate, PRO Kigezi Region.
“We urge anyone with information to come forward and assist us in bringing the perpetrators to justice.”
