Police in Kabale district are investigating circumstances under which a 45-year-old tailoring instructor allegedly defiled a 13-year-old pupil at Kamironko Child Development Center.
According to police spokesperson for Kigezi region, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Elly Maate, the suspect, Samantha Muyeghe, a resident of Nyakahita village, Kigata parish, Kyanamira sub-county, Kabale district, is accused of luring the victim to a church gallery on August 8, 2024, under the pretext of repairing her torn uniform, and then forcing her into sexual intercourse.
The incident is reported to have occurred during school break time, when the suspect allegedly found the victim in the school compound and committed the alleged defilement in the church gallery.
This was not the first encounter between the suspect and the victim, as it is alleged that on August 7, 2024, in the evening hours, the suspect had attempted to grab the victim’s basket from the garden while she was on her way home, but was thwarted by the arrival of the victim’s sister.
The victim reported the incident to her parents, who subsequently filed a complaint at Maziba Police Station under case number CRB:605/2024.
The suspect was arrested and is currently detained at Kabale Central Police Station as investigations continue. ASP Maate has confirmed that inquiries are still ongoing.
