Equity Bank Uganda Limited has extended its support worth Shs10 million towards the Watoto Golf Tournament, scheduled to take place this Saturday, August 10th, 2024, at the Uganda Golf Club. This significant sponsorship underscores the bank’s commitment to social and economic development in Uganda.
The Watoto Golf Tournament, organized by Watoto Church Uganda, is part of the church’s 40th Anniversary celebrations. The primary aim of the event is to raise funds to upskill learners and equip the Hope Vocational and Technical Institute. Proceeds from the tournament will be used to provide the institute with essential vocational training tools and resources, benefiting up to 1,400 students.
Equity Bank Managing Director Anthony Kituuka emphasized the bank’s dedication to transforming lives, giving dignity, and expanding opportunities for wealth creation. He stated, “Champion means to find a cause, find people who are aligned in terms of value or objective, and work with them to achieve that cause. We are delighted to partner with Watoto Church Uganda in this fantastic initiative and honestly believe in the power of education and empowerment.”
Kituuka also highlighted Equity Bank’s longstanding involvement in the golf world, citing their participation in various tournaments, including the prestigious Longe Open. He encouraged both seasoned golfers and newcomers to join the event, promising a fantastic Saturday filled with camaraderie and purpose.
Pastor Edward Mwesigye, the Pastoral Team Leader at Watoto, shared the tournament’s goal of raising Shs300 million to equip the Hope Vocational and Technical Institute. He remarked, “We want great plumbers, electricians, engineers, and mechanics who are going to contribute to the economy of Uganda. This tournament is one of the initiatives aimed at raising money to resource our school, as we need lots of modern equipment, teachers, and supervisors to enable us to equip our young people with the knowledge.”
The focus of this year’s Watoto Golf Tournament will be on young adults, with future editions aimed at young children and women supported by the organization. The event is a testament to Watoto’s commitment to nurturing skilled and productive young citizens who will contribute to Uganda’s economy.
The government of Uganda acknowledges Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as a crucial contributor to individual prosperity and the country’s sustained economic growth and development. Established in 2005, Watoto’s Hope Vocational and Technical Institute addresses the pressing need for excellent technical skills in the marketplace. With an increasing number of students joining the institute, there is a significant demand for investment in human resources and equipment to support their training.
Equity Bank’s sponsorship of the Watoto Golf Tournament is not just a financial contribution but a partnership aimed at empowering the youth of Uganda through education and skills development. As the tournament day approaches, anticipation builds for an event that promises to make a lasting impact on the community.
