The ministry of ICT and National Guidance has once again shaken off another round of reports that they abused funds from Uganda Communications Commission.
The ICT ministry over the weekend responded to media reports associating the Permanent Secretary Dr Aminah Zawedde with misappropriation of resources, claiming she bought personal vehicle to a tune of a billion Uganda shilling.
However, the ministry quickly called the reports “malicious” and outrageous since there was proof that two, not one vehicle, were purchased following laid out procedures.
A day later, another report emerged that Dr Zawedde had drawn non-tax revenue (NTR) from UCC without authorization.
In a series of statements, the ministry has shown reports were UNTRUE.
The ministry of ICT stated in the statement that the TRUTH is contrary to allegations that the Ministry of Finance stopped them from utilize the said NTR from UCC following the said September 2023 request.
“This is to clarify that the ministry of finance, planning and economic development early this year granted approval for use of the funds to the ministry of ICT and National Guidance in execution of its activities. Therefore, the claims that the ministry was stopped from using the said resources are UNTRUE.” Said the brief statement.
The ministry also said the procurement of the two vehicles, registered as UG 0057N and UG 0058N were done “ensuring transparency and accountability” adding that “all requisite approvals, and processes were adhered to” via open bidding and strictly adhering to the guidelines set by the PPDA, and clearance by the office of the Solicitor General.
However, the Ministry insists two vehicles instead of one, were purchased and were registered as UG 0057N and UG 0058N.
