Old Students of Muhanga Progressive Secondary School in Rukiga District yesterday donated a 10,000-litre Water Tank and an Assortment of Essential Text books in support of the School.
The site accommodating the Water-tank has been under construction before it was commissioned for use today in a momentous ceremony that culminated into a swallowship. The donors were led by the Chairperson of Muhanga Progressive Secondary School Old Students Association Chairperson, C.P.A Rollings Masiko Nyesigomwe alias RONYE presided over the commissioning ceremony.
Mr. Nyesigomwe, a Certified Public Accountant and Managing Partner at RONYE Associates Company Ltd explained that their Water Tank donation was to help the School solve the challenge of water scarcity that would at times force the students to trek long distances away from the School in search of clean water. He said that the entire procurement process cost up to Ug. Shs.5 million.
“We realized that we have a problem where our students go out so quite often to fetch water, and we wanted to solve that, basically,” He said.
The students also delivered a donation of assorted Text Books, altogether valued at Ug. Shs. 1 Million, as they sought to enhance the School Library Capacity. The Textbooks were handed over to the School administration during the career guidance session, organized by RONYE Associates Company Ltd.
In an interview with the Press, C.P.A Nyesigomwe also revealed that they had organized RONYE CUP, a football tournament named after him, played in an inter-class format. The competition has been going on, and the final match will be played tomorrow at Nyeikunama Playground, in Muhanga Town Council.
When asked about where they get the motivation to support Muhanga Progressive Secondary School, Mr. Nyesigomwe said it was one way of giving back to the School, and helping the young students to get a better learning environment.
Mr. Baker Tweyongyere, the Head Teacher Muhanga Progressive Secondary School thanked the Old Students Association for remembering to go back and support the School that shaped them into productive members of the society. He asked the students to establish contacts with the successful Old Students for career guidance and future employment opportunities.
Located in Muhanga Town Council about 300 metres from Kabale – Mbarara road, Muhanga Mixed Progressive Secondary School is one of the mixed day and boarding secondary schools founded by the Church of Uganda, under the Diocese of Kigezi.
The School was established in 2001, with support of the Church, Government, and notable Politicians including Former Rukiga County Mp Jack Sabiti who donated the iron sheets to roof the first Classroom Block.
With enrollment increasing from dozens to hundreds and now above 1000 students as of 2024, Muhanga Progressive Secondary School is one of the best performing Secondary Schools in Rukiga District, and has produced notable figures in the Medical Practice, Engineering, Accountancy, Business, among others.
