LEADERSHIP is not simply about occupying and using the various offices for self aggrandizement but should be about offering guidance and enhancing service delivery to the community one serves.
Kiira Regional Police Spokesperson SP James Mubi sounded the caution while speaking during the handover of students’ leadership of MUBS Jinja campus in a ceremony held at Dirifika Country Resort situated at Ntinda Zone, Nakibizzi, Njeru Municipality in Buikwe district.
Saying leadership is action not positions James Mubi asked the new leadership headed by the Prime Minister Ms Dinnah Wambi,a final year BBA student against putting selfish interests at the expense of compassionate service to the university fraternity.
“…I implore you to use your team to discard vices like misappropriation of funds, corruption tendencies and other unethical practices that can undermine your individual reputation and the university image…”,the senior police officer warned.
Quoting an America author, businessman and syndicated columnist Harvey Mackay who said, “…a mediocre person tells, a good person explains, a superior person demonstrates and a great person inspires others to see for themselves, SP James Mubi urged the 12 member team led by Dinnah Wambi to avoid mediocrity but to choose inspiration as their catchword.
In a carefully veiled scripted speech, SP James Mubi also warned the students against blindly following some people who claim to be leaders when in actual they are out to mislead the young generation.
He also used the occasion to heap praises on the Campus Management led by Dr Veronica Mukyala who was represented by the Deputy Director Dr Moses Kisubi for popularizing the campus which now boasts of more than 5,000 students.
The new Prime Minister Dinnah Wambi, 24 while delivering her maiden speech promised to adopt consultative leadership with fellow students and the University managers to ensure peace and harmony.
“…I will always want the best during my term of office by making sure we embrace dialogue as the cornerstone to successful and effective leadership during this one year…”,the soft speaking Prime Minister said.
In a separate interview with this reporter, Dinnah Wambi who hails from Nsomba Village, Kagulu in Buyende where the famous Kagulu Hill is located was not shy to announce her political ambition in the next few years.
“…the fire of leadership is always burning in my heart and I cannot rule out running for the MP race as Buyende District Woman MP in 2031when I will be prepared enough to serve my people…” the slender, milky looking Dinnah Wambi announced.
The Deputy Prime Minister Abdallah Waibale who is also a final year student pursuing the Bachelor in Business Computing(BBC)programme pledged total support to Dinnah Wambi because leadership comes from God.
The outgoing Prime Minister Pastor Emmanuel Kireri expressed hope in the new leadership as a capable and competent team that will steer the students’ leadership for posterity.
