Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has called upon all Ugandans to donate foodstuffs and other household necessities religiously towards their fellow Muslims, as they approach end of Holy Month of Ramadan fasting period.
Ms. Sharon Oyat Arach, the UPC spokesperson made the call during a press briefing at UPC Head office in Kampala on Wednesday. She said religious humanitarian gesture through donations cut across all religions because all human beings are children of Allah.
“With great pleasure, UPC congratulates our brothers and sisters in the Islamic community who are about to complete the Holy month of Ramadan. It has been and continues to be a moment of faith renewal, forgiveness and reflection. As we come to the conclusion of Ramadan, UPC encourages the Muslim fraternity to continue with the spirit of togetherness, unity and charity exhibited during the holy month”, she said in a statement.
Ms. Arach, equally called upon those able to continue with the gifting drive to reach out to their Muslim brothers and sisters, which was ongoing throughout the fasting period.
“We urge them to not only do this during Ramadan but also continue after the Eid and continue helping one another”, she added.
Regarding the ongoing vaccination against Yellow fever, Faizo Muzeyi, UPC Head of Communications and Media said Government should endeavor to sensitize and carry out disease awareness campaigns, at all times and not only act when pandemics and epidemic; such as COVID-19, Ebola, Cholera and Yellow fever among others occur.
He cited an example of COVID-19, whose symptoms are still present in the community, yet people abandoned observing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), like wearing of face masks, washing hands regularly and social distancing to control the spread of the disease.
UPC congratulated the Dokolo District Woman Member of Parliament-elect, Hon. Sarah Aguti Nyangkori, who was sworn in on Wednesday. Hon. Aguti replaces the late Cecilia Ogwal, the Dokolo District Woman member of Parliament, who succumbed to cancer.
