The Kabale community is reeling from a tragic incident that claimed the lives of two individuals on December 8th. The incident, which unfolded at around 7:30 PM, involved a couple identified as Mugabirwe Adrin, 47, and Turyahikayo Robert, 49.
According to police reports, the couple had a history of domestic violence. On the evening of December 8th, while at their home in Mwendo village, Nyanja parish, Maziba subcounty, a heated argument erupted. The situation escalated, leading to a physical altercation.
Tragically, Turyahikayo is alleged to have struck Mugabirwe with a hoe, causing her immediate death. The incident sent shockwaves through the community.
In a desperate act, Turyahikayo then fled to his second home, where he reportedly ingested poison in the presence of his pregnant second wife, Natukunda Judith. Despite her attempts to intervene, Turyahikayo succumbed to the effects of the poison.
Police were informed and arrived at the scene to initiate investigations. The bodies of both individuals were transferred to the Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem examinations.
The incident has sparked a conversation about domestic violence within the community. Residents are encouraged to reach out for support if they are experiencing similar situations.
“This is a devastating loss for the families and the entire community,” said ASP Maate Elly, PRO Kigezi.
“Domestic violence is a serious issue that should not be ignored.”
He further emphasized the importance of seeking help and reporting any instances of domestic violence.
