The Executive Director of Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Dorothy Kisaka and Kampala’s Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago have expressed the need to integrate Cities in Uganda through a Cities Forum that will see initiation of more development programs.
Kisaka and Lukwago revealed this during a dinner hosted by KCCA’s top leadership at Jinja Nile Resort (Mada Hotel) in Jinja City on Monday. KCCA’s top leadership also ended a two-day retreat on streamlining the governance system of the authority.
In attendance at the dinner was Jinja City Mayor Alton Peter Kasolo Okocha, his deputy Fazira Kawuma, Jinja City Council Speaker Mbayo Bernard, Jinja Northern division mayor Wabika Ayub and councilors from Jinja Northern division and City council council.
In her remarks at the dinner, Kisaka, said having a Cities Forum has been one of the dreams she has been having at heart.
She added that creation of a Cities Forum is not just for development purposes but also for socializing among the Cities leadership.
Kisaka said that there is a need to champion the development of Cities in order to cater for people who are moving away from the rural areas to Cities.
Kisaka cited an example that when she visited Germany recently, people had moved from the rural areas to Cities and their government had made an excellent preparation for them in the Cities.
Lord Mayor, Lukwago was also in support of creating a Cities Forum.
Lukwago requested Jinja City Mayor Kasolo that they champion the issue of creating a Cities Forum and also share the idea to other Cities leadership in Uganda.
Jinja City Council Speaker, Bernard Mbayo, welcomed the idea of creating a Cities Forum adding that as Cities they need the forum to bring City Mayors together.
In his remarks, Jinja City Mayor, Peter Kasolo, was happy about the idea saying it will enhance development and Tourism in various Cities.
Kasolo said that as pioneer leaders of Jinja City, they have big challenges ahead and he is sure that the Cities Forum once created will increase their lobbying capacity to solve those challenges.
