MTN Uganda on Wednesday confirmed its contribution of Ugx180 million towards Makerere University’s centennial celebrations slated for October 2022.
The grand package was handed over to Professor Henry Alinaitwe the deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of finance and administration at the new MTN Uganda head quarters on Wednesday May 4th, 2022.
The Chief Marketing officer at MTN Uganda, Somdev Senn noted that the contribution is simply a commitment towards MTN’s continuous effort to support learning institutions and ensure that the students of Uganda have a bright future.
“We are handing over 180 million to Makerere for the 100 years celebrations.This is our commitment to see that students at Makerere be part of MTN. In many ways going forward, the university will join hands with MTN where need be,” Somdev said.
“Digital operators need to realize the potential that digital companies have towards building the next generation of young people who are going through an education,” he added.
Professor Alinaitwe Henry lauded MTN Uganda for supporting Makerere University, noting that the telecommunications giant has always partnered with the university in many ways, through availing incentives to University students especially through internship opportunities.
Professor Alinaitwe also hinted about the future rehabilitation of Makerere University halls of residences, revealing that the institution is yet to receive 100 billion from the government of Uganda for the cause Makerere University will be making 100 years of existence this year 2022, and the celebrations to commemorate this marvelous milestone are slated for October.
