Ofwono Opondo, the Executive Director of Uganda Media Centre has revealed why security is holding Obed Katureebe, the Public Relations Officer at the centre.
According to Opondo, Katureebe is not under arrest but rather he is under security protection.
“Katureebe is under security protection because of threats allegedly against his person, details of which I am yet to be provided with. I have been assured that he is safe and not under arrest,” Opondo told New Vision news paper on Tuesday.
Before joining Uganda Media Centre, Katureebe worked as a security and political journalist at Daily Monitor and the Independent Magazine.
He was allegedly picked from his residence in Kyanja, Kampala suburb by armed officers from the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence(CMI) on Monday.
ChimpReports, an online news outlet stated that military officials arrived at Katureebe’s home at around 3pm and they instructed the Uganda Media Centre senior staff to board their vehicle before driving off to unknown destination.
